Ambient Life, Love and Health
Cranked out a very ambient piece today for Life Love and Health. I quite like it. The last touch that I put onto it, I think, is worth sharing. Totally came by accident. I was playing the piece and heard this throbbing super low repetitive beat... I thought somehow one of the synths I had used put it in there. When I pressed stop, it was still going. It was my downstairs neighbor's stereo... just the lowend passing through the building. So I quickly cranked the gain on a mic I had plugged in (coincidentally?!) and recorded the length of it to match the track. Cranked the gain even more, put a low pass filter on it and cut out everything above 160. Walla. It's now this low level under-current... a subsonic rhythm for the ambient piece. I was pretty stoked how it happened on the fly, and the best part is, whatever the bass line was in whatever song it was, it was only 1 semi-tone off of the tune of my piece. So I used pitch-n-time (awesome plug) to bring it into tune, and man, it brought the track to life!
Ivan and I are working on our third track tomorrow. In two sessions, we have literally cooked on this track. We have a full beginning to end already, in TWO sessions?! Quickest yet, hopefully we can continue this momentum.

I have also nearly completed a new original of my own entitled "First of the Year".
I am hoping that this will be one track to be included on a future release with Night Drive Music. A lot of the sounds are coming from my Oberheim Matrix 1000 (which I LOVE). That analog goodness really shines through. I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but it warms up the production. I can tell, anyways.
