A frustrating stand still...
So about three weeks ago, the power supply on my G4 machine fizzled out and died. And damn are they expensive to replace! With a trip to Detroit and Toronto on the near-term horizon, I put off replacing the part until I was sure we had some liquid dough to throw at the problem.
I did find a replacement part on eBay while staying at our friend's place in Detroit, and for a better price than I envisioned. However, they chose to ship using a service called DHL... Or as some have coined, DH-Hell.
Let me go on the record and confirm for anyone scratching their heads about which shipping service to use that DHL is to be avoided at ALL COSTS. Super unprofessional, rude customer service agents. I tried all day yesterday to contact the main delivery branch here in SF (after being told I would get a call back that never happened)... They never answered their phone. Not once. I must have called 20 times, then realized my time wasted trying to get through was just that.. time absolutely wasted.
Now I have to cart myself down to the branch and pick it up in person, which I've learned through horror stories should be a dream, let me tell you.
Long story short, being without this power supply has absolutely killed any forward momentum Ivan-I and I have built recently. I know it'll get better once we're back up and running. But these things just don't wait for the perfect time, do they?
More news once I get everything working again (sigh).
